Weekly Homestead Log–5/20/18

Here is our weekly homestead log of time spent and rewards gained on the One Hour Homestead:

Routine Animal Chores

  • Morning chores–10 minutes x 7 = 1:10
  • Evening chores–5 minutes x 7 = :35
  • Milking–15 x 7 = 1:45

Marmalade and I are back in the milking routine.  I milk each morning, using a machine.  The milking only takes about 5 minutes, but putting the milk away and cleaning the machine take about 10 minutes.


  • Planted seeds for sweet corn (early and mid-season varieties), bush beans, and pole beans = :50
  • Transplanted peppers, some of the tomatoes, and eight sweet potato slips = 1:00
  • Weeding = :30
  • Finish setting up drip irrigation (with the husband’s help) = :15
  • Harvesting asparagus and greens = :20

Other Projects

  • Clean chicken coop = :25
  • Light barn cleaning = :15

Total Week’s Time



1 dozen duck eggs

6 dozen chicken eggs

Milk — 5 quarts (2 quarts made into yogurt and 2 quarts turned into feta cheese)

Radishes, spinach, and 2 large bowls of other greens harvested from the mini hoop house

3 lb of asparagus
