    Here is this week’s record of time spent and rewards gained on the One Hour Homestead: Gardening Start a flat of seeds (tomatoes and basil)–:30 Water seedlings — :05 minutes Set up mini hoop house and plant with early spring veg — 1:05 Prune apple and pear trees–:35 minutes Routine Animal Chores Morning chores–10 minutes x 7 = 1:10 Evening chores–5 minutes x 7 = :35 Trim goat hooves– :20 Other Projects Final boil of maple sap — 1:15 Fence repair/work– :15 Total Week’s Time 5:50 Results 1 1/2 dozen duck eggs 4 1/2 dozen chicken eggs 1 pint maple syrup

    The Blog Begins

    Inspirations and satisfaction.  We begin here…I have been inspired by many blogs over the years; they serve as sources of ideas, comfort, knowledge and progress.  My homesteading journey began as a series of far-off dreams for the future 20+ years ago.  In very small increments, the pieces have come together.  I now find myself in a place to share what I have found to be manageable and fulfilling toward my goals of self-sufficiency, providing for friends and family, and enjoyment of a way of life that has called to me for so many years.  Homesteading on a small scale is doable; even by those with limited land, time and resources. …
